Microscope Optics

Infinity-corrected microscope objectives and their associated focusing optics have become very popular due to fluorescence microscopy. Placing interchangeable beam splitter filter cubes in the collimated portion of the beam enables a variety of fluorescence spectra to be examined within the image.

SMA Optical Technologies is very familiar with both the imaging optical design as well as filter and cube specifications. We have the capability of designing microscope objectives providing excellent imaging performance while simultaneously working over an extended spectral range. We are also closely allied with manufacturers who are capable of fabricating these lenses as drop-in replacements in mainline microscopic systems. We have developed proprietary software to speed the specification of multiple beam splitter cube spectral performance in order to limit spectral cross talk within the fluorescence bands. This process becomes especially critical when as many as six or eight florophores are present simultaneously.
